Autumn is upon us. Can you believe it? Well, believe it or not, it’s about here, which means leaves will be falling soon enough. Leaves can be beautiful colors and put you in the mood for pumpkin pie or a great jacket and boots. However, they can also wreak havoc on your lawn and gutters. Here are a few tips to keep your lawn and home in great repair throughout the Fall and Winter seasons.
Mow the leaves. If you mow the leaves with a bag on the mower, you can collect the clippings and dispose of them easily.
Keep gutters clear of debris. Gutters can be a great tool to keep your home looking great. However, if they get clogged with leaves, branches, or other debris, they can become a hazard. The weight of the debris can cause gutters to pull away from your home. This can
damage the brackets and your home. Water overflowing can damage paint or even seep into siding and affect the structure of your home.
Check water flow. Make sure water is flowing correctly through your gutter system. These systems are designed to get water off your roof and divert it away from your foundation. When the system is not functioning properly, it can cause damage to your home structure.
Use leaves for composting or as fertilizer. Once those leaves fall to the ground, it doesn’t mean they can’t still be useful! Rake some of them up around the base of trees for free fertilizer, or throw raked leaves on your composting pile to provide rich nutrients.
Those leaves falling may mean some work for you, but if you put in the work to use those leaves to your advantage, your lawn and trees may end up healthier than ever. Follow these tips and manage your gutters and the leaves around your home to be sure you can enjoy Autumn and Winter instead of paying for costly repairs!
